Wrap up with Christmas Jumpers

December 14th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

It’s that time of the year again, jingle bells and lights are all over town! While some of us is shopping for fancy Christmas party outfits, others are hunting the perfect Christmas jumper to wrap up.

Christmas jumpers are all about being cosy and comfortable. And at this time of the year we can’t really spare the warmth power of an extra layer!

One thing must be said, no one wants to spend a fortune in a jumper full of snow flakes and reindeer,  it is cute and all, but it’s extremely seasonal, so you wouldn’t get enough wear out of it.

But not buying an expensive Christmas jumper doesn’t mean that you can’t get a cool one! For our luck, Penneys and Dunnes always have great cost Vs. value options available during the festive season.

I’ve just got myself a very cute cardigan, to do my 12 pubs this weekend, with squirrels and snow flakes all over, at Penneys for only 16 euros!

Styling Christmas jumpers can be quite tricky, they are usually very heavy printed and colorful, so my tip is to keep it simple, match with denim pants and boots, converses or New Balances! You can always have a shirt under it (make sure you have the collar over the jumper!).

If you want to dress it up a bit more, you can match with a skirt (pleated, A-line or midi-pencil) and have tights and heavy socks with nice boots!

It doesn’t matter if you rather it girly or tomboy, getting a Christmas jumper is a MUST in december!

B-day Gifts

December 10th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

“Je m’appelle Daphne. Je sui ving-ans” Yes I just joined french classes and…. yes, last Friday was the 20th time I blew my candles and wished for a fashion career, well… maybe my first 10 candles weren’t fashion related but it doesn’t mean that I didn’t want a new pair of shoes!

My friends and family know me so well… all my birthday gifts were fashion related!

3 Fashion Books (wait for a review on them!), a black clutch bag (for the girl that doesn’t own any black bags), a pair of Carvela spiked silver shoes, beautiful fluffy gloves, a bracelet and a pair of amber earrings (Jurassic Park feelings).

My only not fashion related gift was a pack of ski classes! I am enjoying it to death, never thought I would be good at it!

I must admit that my favorite gift came from myself, a new tattoo on my ribs! It is a paragraph from the french book “Le Petit Prince”  by Saint Exupéry. It means a lot to me to have a quote from the book forever with me.

Mais, si tu m’apprivoises, nous aurons besoin l’un de l’autre. Tu seras pour moi unique au monde. Je serai pour toi unique au monde…”

Winter Outfitting

November 25th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

As November says the last good byes, Dublin is getting colder and darker. The first signs of winter are pretty visible, by 4.30pm is already night time and 2 degrees is the most common temperature on my phone screen.

Being so busy for work did not leave me time enough to do my winter shopping just yet. I must admit, my lack of time for blogging/researching/reading, put me off shopping for now, I have absolutely no inspiration right now!

I took my Sunday morning in bed to do some fashion homework as I prepare for Christmas Shopping! My favorite things right now are all-black Outfit, heavy jumpers, Pointy Shoes, leather skirts, wolly hats and neon details.

In need of mastering my winter outfitting right now, inspirations and suggestions are accepted!

Dress to keep warm this Winter!

November 8th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

how to keep warm this winter tips dress winter

The older I get the more strictly I follow my mum’s rules about winter outfitting. Keeping warm will not only guarantee you a nicer humor but will also dispel you from a 4 months period of running nose and coughing.

Dress in Layers:  Rule number one is the most basic rule for any cold weather! The benefits of dressing in layers is that you can add or remove garments depends on how you feel!

Start with a thin layer closer to the skin, try silk or polyester or nylon. Never choose cotton as the first layer, this fabric absorbs water (a.k.a sweat) so it will end up making you feel cold!

Keep Head, Neck, Hands and Feet Toasty: These are your body extremities and it’s where the most heat is let off! Make sure socks, hats, mittens and scarfs are always on your gear!

p.s.: Mittens are much better than gloves, when you fingers are together they retain more heat!

Buy a good winter coat: Buying the right winter coat it’s not a easy task! The warmest coats are generally ugly, and as you are going to be seen with your coat for the next months you want a good looking warm coat.

Make sure your coat is long enough, ideally touching the middle of your tights. If you live in a humid area, water proof is extremely necessary. Having a hood attached to your jacket will create an extra layer to your head if necessary.

Find yourself a good pair of boots: Just as important as the previous topic, having a good pair of boots is really important during the colder months. I can’t imagine anything worse than having wet/cold feet.

Try and get a pair that are thicker on the sole, this will certainly isolate the cold and water. When choosing boots, go for something you can wear with everything you have, from denim to dresses (black or brown are always easy to match).

Get a Hand-Warmer: Hand warmer is a disposable packets that when held in hands, get warmer. They are most commonly used for hiking or skiing, but they are great to have in your pocket during a cold morning. You can buy them in winter sports shops and they wouldn’t cost you much.

Keep fashionable and warm!

Inspired Kenzo Sweater

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t feel comfortable spending a little fortune into a sweat-top, but nowadays every well known fashionista seems to own at least one tiger printed Kenzo sweater.
After hours of Tumblr outfit inspiration research on the Jumper Trend I was definitely in love with Kenzo’s latest creation, however I shouldn’t be shopping right now, so I put all my brightest outfit ideas aside.
Happily I met a friend for lunch on Stephen’s Green Wagamama Restaurant (I deeply recommend the Yaki Soba and Homemade Lemonade), and we decided to pop for a minute in Zara. That’s when I found Kenzo Tiger Jumper rip-off for only 24.99!
How could I say no to a bargain?! I can’t wait to start building outfits around it!

Shopping Sunglasses Online

October 22nd, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

how to shop sunglasses online sunglasses frame online shopping

How many times you find yourself browsing the internet for sunglasses, but giving-up for not knowing how they are going to look on your face?

You can find a better deal and much more options for sunglasses online than in your local department store or optician. But shopping online for sunglasses is quite tricky.

knowing which glasses frames suit better your face-shape is essential if you are considering to buy your perfect shades online!

This is a quick guide on how to shop sunglasses for your face-shape:

The Heart-Shaped Face: Round, bottom-heavy or cat-eye sunglasses will accentuate your shape. Avoid anything too decorative, it will bring out your forehead.

Oval Face Shape: If you own this face shape, you are a lucky women! This is the most wanted shape and looks great with most sunglasses! My favorite one for this shape are the Aviator Ray Ban Glasses!

Square Face-Shape: Similar to the heart-shaped face, the square shape is great for round cat-eye or oval sunglasses. Avoid anything square and always opt for soft curves!

Round Face-Shape: Rectangular or any squarish frames are great for the round shape. Anything small or too round will make your face look even rounder!!

My favorite ones are definitely Gucci Sunglasses, they are beautiful, stylish and have extreme high-quality. But if you are searching for something more affordable but still stylish, Carrera Sunglasses are a great option!

The Jumper

The Jumper is a old winter friend, cosy and warm, but always considered a topping for your pijama bottoms, or a ‘supermaket-outfit’.

Things changed completely when Rihanna stepped out on her Kenzo’s jumper, this piece made the top 10 on most fashionista’s winter wish-list. Nowadays, a good grey over sized jumper is what the coolest kids wear.

Studs, diamonds, crazy prints and logos are welcome. Topshop and Urban Outfitters have a great selection, but let’s face it, men’s jumpers are always better – and warmer. Hit the menswear section of the high-street shops, they always have, logo and printed jumpers.

Using simple DIY tricks, you can customize a unique jumper. A good idea is to get yourself some studs and apply to the shoulders, cuffs or collar. But if you want to go pro, you can cut your logo in a paper and use it as a stencil to apply the fabric dye on it!

Mach your new garment with boyfriend jeans, leather skinny trousers or skirts and create a different look every time you wear the same jumper.

Saturday Night Fever

Last Saturday night I had a girls night out to celebrate one of my best friend’s 23rd birthday at Palace

Wearing a dress to a night out was never one of my favorite options, it used to be what all girls would do. I’ve always been more of a Unitard or Denim Hotpants kind of girl…

Since high-waisted hotpants became a fever and onezies are everywhere to be seen, I’ve been avoiding them. Buying a dress was the solution I found to avoid the ‘every-girl-on-the-dancefloor’ look. A real girly Topshop princess-like dress in pink and purple flowers with a layer of tulle skirt underneath to make sure I have the voluminous skirt.

A super-cute look does not match my style at all, but by adding heavy leather boots from River Island to the outfit I gave it my own twist and the final look was great and very ‘me’!

Jumper Invasion

September 24th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Interesting and pretty casual, that’s how I like to keep my working outfits. Jumpers are a new must-have for Autumn winter wardrobe.

As always, I can’t decide a good one to buy, but I am pretty sure it is going to come straight from the menswear section. Men’s jumpers are generally warmer and cooler.

Some inspiration to keep our minds open.

Cowboy Boots

September 19th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Cowboy Boots are a pretty classic wardrobe item. They are not only cool and stylish but also comfortable, what is always my biggest concern when buying shoes.

The ‘Texas’ style boots is a great choice, it doesn’t matter if you are more of a rock chick or a romantic gurl. You can style it up or down, so it is a festival shoe, but can also be a going out option too.

I admit, it is difficult to spot the perfect pair in Ireland, unfortunately not many cowboys here,  but you can always find them online!
