Wrap up with Christmas Jumpers

December 14th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

It’s that time of the year again, jingle bells and lights are all over town! While some of us is shopping for fancy Christmas party outfits, others are hunting the perfect Christmas jumper to wrap up.

Christmas jumpers are all about being cosy and comfortable. And at this time of the year we can’t really spare the warmth power of an extra layer!

One thing must be said, no one wants to spend a fortune in a jumper full of snow flakes and reindeer,  it is cute and all, but it’s extremely seasonal, so you wouldn’t get enough wear out of it.

But not buying an expensive Christmas jumper doesn’t mean that you can’t get a cool one! For our luck, Penneys and Dunnes always have great cost Vs. value options available during the festive season.

I’ve just got myself a very cute cardigan, to do my 12 pubs this weekend, with squirrels and snow flakes all over, at Penneys for only 16 euros!

Styling Christmas jumpers can be quite tricky, they are usually very heavy printed and colorful, so my tip is to keep it simple, match with denim pants and boots, converses or New Balances! You can always have a shirt under it (make sure you have the collar over the jumper!).

If you want to dress it up a bit more, you can match with a skirt (pleated, A-line or midi-pencil) and have tights and heavy socks with nice boots!

It doesn’t matter if you rather it girly or tomboy, getting a Christmas jumper is a MUST in december!

Spiked Ballerinas and Mustache Loafers

November 14th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

I’m going to start today’s post with a big apology to all my beloved readers, I haven’t been the best feeding the blog recently! But I have a great excuse: I just accepted a great job offer and I’ve been all over the place with my timetable.

On my new work I have to be really dressy at all times, but I couldn’t bare wearing heels all day, so I started hunting for dressy, expensive looking flats.

After visiting all shops on Grafton St during my lunch time, I wasn’t really convinced to buy anything, but when I entered Zara (I should really get paid for mentioning them in all my posts…) I found the perfect pair of spiked ballerinas. They are very expensive looking, stylish and comfortable, exactly what I need for work!

This spiked ballerinas can be worn with everything from a dress to my casual black jeans. I feel that everything I put with them, just looks instantly cool!

I decided to have a look around (even though I had found what I needed) and I ended up finding this amazing pair of velvet loafers! They are simply gorgeous, the mustache is a great add on to the loafer, so even though I shouldn’t be shopping for more shoes, somehow I decided that Movember was a good enough reason to purchase another pair of shoes (as if I needed any reason).

Inspired Kenzo Sweater

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t feel comfortable spending a little fortune into a sweat-top, but nowadays every well known fashionista seems to own at least one tiger printed Kenzo sweater.
After hours of Tumblr outfit inspiration research on the Jumper Trend I was definitely in love with Kenzo’s latest creation, however I shouldn’t be shopping right now, so I put all my brightest outfit ideas aside.
Happily I met a friend for lunch on Stephen’s Green Wagamama Restaurant (I deeply recommend the Yaki Soba and Homemade Lemonade), and we decided to pop for a minute in Zara. That’s when I found Kenzo Tiger Jumper rip-off for only 24.99!
How could I say no to a bargain?! I can’t wait to start building outfits around it!

The Jumper

The Jumper is a old winter friend, cosy and warm, but always considered a topping for your pijama bottoms, or a ‘supermaket-outfit’.

Things changed completely when Rihanna stepped out on her Kenzo’s jumper, this piece made the top 10 on most fashionista’s winter wish-list. Nowadays, a good grey over sized jumper is what the coolest kids wear.

Studs, diamonds, crazy prints and logos are welcome. Topshop and Urban Outfitters have a great selection, but let’s face it, men’s jumpers are always better – and warmer. Hit the menswear section of the high-street shops, they always have, logo and printed jumpers.

Using simple DIY tricks, you can customize a unique jumper. A good idea is to get yourself some studs and apply to the shoulders, cuffs or collar. But if you want to go pro, you can cut your logo in a paper and use it as a stencil to apply the fabric dye on it!

Mach your new garment with boyfriend jeans, leather skinny trousers or skirts and create a different look every time you wear the same jumper.

Saturday Night Fever

Last Saturday night I had a girls night out to celebrate one of my best friend’s 23rd birthday at Palace

Wearing a dress to a night out was never one of my favorite options, it used to be what all girls would do. I’ve always been more of a Unitard or Denim Hotpants kind of girl…

Since high-waisted hotpants became a fever and onezies are everywhere to be seen, I’ve been avoiding them. Buying a dress was the solution I found to avoid the ‘every-girl-on-the-dancefloor’ look. A real girly Topshop princess-like dress in pink and purple flowers with a layer of tulle skirt underneath to make sure I have the voluminous skirt.

A super-cute look does not match my style at all, but by adding heavy leather boots from River Island to the outfit I gave it my own twist and the final look was great and very ‘me’!

Ultimate Autumn 12 Footwear Guide

October 4th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Throughout the history of footwear, shoes and boots with long, pointed toes have been favored at various periods and cultures or sub-cultures. On A/W12 and S/S13 Catwalks we saw the return of pointy shoes.

Pumps, boots and sandals receive the elongated treatment and they definitely look more sophisticated and sharp. Welted out soles and platforms add more dimension and structure to the silhouette of the shoes.

Leather and Nappa are the fabrics you are looking for this Autumn. Black is always easier to match and mantain, but maroon, caramel, and dark green are colours not to ignore. White boots have always been a big discussion between fashionistas, but this winter white was embraced with style as a important detail on footwear.

The typical  ‘bone-lenght’ changed to a taller version that should reach at least 1 inch from the ankle-bone. Socks are welcome to the new version of ankle boots. Details such as buckles and metallic frames in the tips of the pointed toes provide a expensive-looking finish and a little touch of the fetish culture.

No doubt on why Fall is my favorite season to buy footwear!

October is the door for Autumn, so now is time to start packing your S/S12 stuff and shop for amazing Autumn/Winter 12.

I love all the jewel tones present on the catwalk on the last Fashion Weeks, but when it comes to colours, black & white are my favorites.

My autumn/winter 12 wardrobe is starting to be built and my chosen pallet is Black, White, Grey and Red. They were always the best colour on my fair yellow toned skin. I’ve been trying colours in vain, they never look as good as monochrome on me, definitely a pity.

Moving towards garments, the sweater is my mojo this autumn.Wool, angora, polyester or cotton, no wardrobe should neglect the sweater this season. The warm and stylish solution for autumn.

Talking wool, I’m going to be putting in practice my good abilities of knitting  while drinking innocent smoothies this month for #IrishBigKnit should be fun, gonna share my results with you!

Cowboy Boots

Cowboy Boots are a pretty classic wardrobe item. They are not only cool and stylish but also comfortable, what is always my biggest concern when buying shoes.

The ‘Texas’ style boots is a great choice, it doesn’t matter if you are more of a rock chick or a romantic gurl. You can style it up or down, so it is a festival shoe, but can also be a going out option too.

I admit, it is difficult to spot the perfect pair in Ireland, unfortunately not many cowboys here,  but you can always find them online!

Unitard

If you are on the team of people that believe unitards are only for babies and it should always me a ‘must-run-0f for grown up women, get over it! Unitards are the coolest thing in town.

Flicking trough Asos website I cannot resist them all. One hyper than the other, not only because of how nice this figure-hugger garment looks but also because its the practical choice.

Could never get ready for a night out faster than when I choose my unitard. One statement piece, always better than a dress because you don’t have to worry about your milk-coloured legs.

Heels or wedges, bracelets or necklace, clutch or shoulder-bag. Doesn’t matter what are your accessories choices, this is a ‘safe’ look. I promise you can’t ruin it – unless you don’t have the figure-.

Black & White & Blue

Black & White & Blue is one of my favorite combinations at the moment. I think the blue just pops out so well in between the B&W.

This is my first outfit animated gif but I am already loving it! Please don’t be harsh on judging it, I am only learning!
