Burgundy Shower

October 15th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

FW12-Burgundy-Trend- head-to-toe-fall-trend-autumn-winter-colour-trend-color-wine

Monochrome outfits used to be unfashionable for years, but taking the latest Autumn/Winter catwalks, head-to-toe burgundy is the hot it gets this fall.

After all neon, graphic prints and colour-blocking trends I find refreshing to wear one-toned outfits. Although a entire wine-toned look can sound like overdoing, mixing textures can break the dullness. Wool is great fabric for the colder weather and sparkle is certainly one of the best ways to add some fun to any outfit.

By incorporating key pieces of this season into your ‘all-burgundy’ outfit you are certainly making a style statement. Accessories will help you to create an even more trendy outfit. Add your arm-party and you will have a front row look!

We need a burgundy shower!

Ebay Online Fashion Week

June 25th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

ebay fashion week dubli ireland 2012 irish fashion stylists

Yesterday was the last night of Ebay Online Fashion Week and it was catwalk time!

The 4 fashion stylists that won the chance of styling their very own fashion show were Leanne Woodfull, Gavin Norton, Roisin Flanagan and Laura O Brien.

The whole show was incredible but I did not have any doubts of wich catwalk was my favorite: the menswear!

The only word tI found to describe the styling by Gavin Norton is: breath-taking. Resuming for you, while my catwalk video isn’t ready , imagine formal suits with baseball jackets cool shoes and a super hot blond “nerd-chic” model. I know you liked it!

Leanne Woodfull has such a strong personal style that whenever I saw one of her outfits on the runaway I knew she had styled it! (mainly the one with the huge pink bow).

The venue chosen by Think House team was, again, perfect. A theater that used to be a church. The light coming trough the window was fabulous and the whole atmosphere was great.

Ebay Online Fashion Week – Day 2

June 19th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Second day of Ebay Online Fashion Week was hosted by Darren Kennedy and the guests for the chat were Natalie B. Coleman (Irish Fashion Designer) and Andrea Byrne (Irish Fashion Journalist).

The first topic of the talk was “Selling on Ebay” and Andrea, a avid seller (with her mum’s help), gave some tips on how to sell and what sells better. I wasn’t impressed when she said the designer collaborations and higher level brands actually sell better but she didn’t put me off from selling my  ”crappy” pieces cause she sold some Penneys stuff herself!

Natalie B. Coleman resumed her carreer in few words (being really modest about her achievements all the time) but the most interesting talking was about her collections and the story she tells trough her garments, for example her top in wich we can read ” All the jewelry I’ve never got” that actually comes from the one moment when she was looking trough her mum’s jewelry that she got from her boyfriend and Natalie that never got any.

After the introductions the talk got a bit more serious  (but not less enjoyable and entertaining) with topics like ” how to set up your own online brand” “networking” and “being in the Fashion Industry in Ireland”.

Lots of questions came trough twitter from the hashtag “eBayOFW” but on the room we also could make questions and mine came on the very end of the program to Darren and Andrea that are bloggers ” how do you get people to follow you?”. The answer wasn’t different from others I’ve heard before, is all about getting out there, having a facebook page and being a self publicist, getting your name out there!

It was a great talk, but Am I famous now that I was featured on live stream online TV?

Last thursday I went to the press launch of NCAD Fashion Show sponsored by Diet Coke. The event was basically a sneak-peak of the collections and the launch of two videos.

First of all, it was an honor to be among many irish  fashion talents, I was impressed with most of the designs I’ve seen.

The place was massive (the architecture reminded me of Turkey) and the two videos ‘Stitched Together’ and ‘What Is Fashion?’, were amazing. So many important figures of Irish Fashion were featured in there (such as Natalie B. Coleman, Brendan Courtney…) and everything they said was really honest.

One thing has to be said about Think House: This guys know how to organize amazing events. I’ve never been disappointed once with them!

The Fashion show will be on the 26 of May so if you are interested on the raising talents of Irish Fashion Industry this is definitely the place for you!

Be Fashion Fearless – BFW 2012

April 24th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Better-Fashion-Week-2012-Dublin-Daphne-Lopes-Fashion-Blog-outfit-first-day

First of all I must say that last night was amazing. The building is great and people there were so stylish that I can not get over it!

It was such a pleasure to hear the experience of people that got it right on the irish fashion industry. And absolutely inspiring to see how fashion fearless they are.

Opening the nigh Constance Harris mentioned a talk that she had with Jean Paul Gaultier ” Fashion is not fantasy is reality”, what I absolutely agree with. She also talked about the use of colors and mentioned that she was wearing black clothes because she needed a bit of strength to talk to us.

During her 7 minutes of talking she said so many smart things about recession/shopping and personal style but what really made me think was her last 30 seconds, she mentioned how important it is to people to honor their own fashion journeys because this is what make each person different.

Aoibheann MacNamara make her 7 minutes a pure joy making everybody laugh of her stories but she said something that I truly believe,  personal style is made by your own experiences (on her -and mine- case, traveling is one of the biggest influences on her style). She also talked about about the necessity of people of styling their uniforms to express themselves, what is really interesting and completely true (look back to your school-era, no one wanted to use the uniform on the way it was supposed to be used!)

Ib Jorgensen entertained us all with all his histories as a designer and also made a statement saying that women should wear their personalities.

Straight after the interval Helen Steele an irish designer  - that I adore – talked about her work and how she was inspired. Regarding the “ Fashion Fearless” theme she mentioned her daughter and how much she believes in not raising an alienated child. Sustainability and wearable art were also topics of her conversation.

Confidence and being different as an individual were Helen’s main points on “how to be fashion fearless”.

David McDermott enchanted everybody with his histories and amazing fraque. He started his talk saying that the blue jean destroyed fashion and later on explained that nowadays designers have to produce things that can be manufactured in big quantities and this is not possible when you want to do garments that are special.

Eimer Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh got my attention not only because of her name (that i could barely read) but also because she is a costumer designer and this is a profession that I would love to have myself. She talked about how she ended up being a costumer designer and about opportunities in terms of internships.

Brendan Courtney was the last speaker of the night and he went a bit further on his history as a bullied child that after bleaching the hair, getting a cool jacket and changing school became one of the popular guys. He also showed  me trough his fashion journey that you have to be highly honest about who you truly are to be confident.

As I mentioned before, last night was so inspirational, and I certainly can’t express all the knowledge I got by writing this post. But the one thing I have to say about this night is how much is enforced on my mind that self -knowledge and acceptance is the key for fashion fearlessness.

As most of you probably know Better Fashion Week is happening this week in Dublin and this is an amazing opportunity to get together and have lots of fashion fun!

On Better Fashion Week Website  you can check the events you want to attend (and how to buy your tickets to it), there are so many nice things to see during this week that I can’t mention all of them, but I will be attending as press to register the best moments and eat all the fashion knowledge that will be offered during the events.

Starting today with the “Re-dress Saloon” with the theme Be Fashion Fearless. I didn’t even need to mention that I am already loving this event just because of the title! It seems to be a great opportunity to see what the leading irish sartorialists have to share about their views and fashion inspiration!

Themost important thing about the whole event is the idea of promoting and developing sustainable fashion on the Irish Fashion Industry.

I think we all have lots to learn this week! Grab you notebook and come meet me for a chat on Better Fashion Week!

Second Half of Trinity College Fashion Show 2012

March 6th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

I know it has been a long time since Trinity College Fashion Show but only yesterday I had the chance to upload the second half of the show on youtube ( and it took more than 4 hours) .

The second half was based on ” What to wear to Trinity Ball”, there is a dress for every kind of girl and many options for boys. I loved it!

Congratulations again for the stylists!

If you missed the first half of TCD Fashion Show this is your opportunity to see it all!

I’ve been so occupied with my new job + searching for a evening Fashion Designer BA  that I’m not having proper time for fashion DIY, but  I promise I will come up with something cool!

P.s.: If any of you know any Evening Fashion Design B.A in Dublin or Dun Laoghaire let me know!

TCD Fashion Show 2012

February 27th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Last Thursday night I was on the front row of Trinity College Fashion Show representing New Look.

I have to say that it was much better than what I was expecting. The room were the catwalk took place was breath-taking, the models were super cute and the outfits were great! Do I need to mention that I loved the goodie-bags?

So fair play for the TCD Fashion Society!

I decided to record  instead of taking pictures, it is a much better way to give you a perspective of the show. This is the first time I’ve ever posted a video I did myself on the blog so please don’t be to harsh on me, and let me know what you think! (the quality is really poor because of youtube)

My outfit for the show was based on the Pyjama Trend featured on my last post.
