Ebay Online Fashion Week

June 25th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

ebay fashion week dubli ireland 2012 irish fashion stylists

Yesterday was the last night of Ebay Online Fashion Week and it was catwalk time!

The 4 fashion stylists that won the chance of styling their very own fashion show were Leanne Woodfull, Gavin Norton, Roisin Flanagan and Laura O Brien.

The whole show was incredible but I did not have any doubts of wich catwalk was my favorite: the menswear!

The only word tI found to describe the styling by Gavin Norton is: breath-taking. Resuming for you, while my catwalk video isn’t ready , imagine formal suits with baseball jackets cool shoes and a super hot blond “nerd-chic” model. I know you liked it!

Leanne Woodfull has such a strong personal style that whenever I saw one of her outfits on the runaway I knew she had styled it! (mainly the one with the huge pink bow).

The venue chosen by Think House team was, again, perfect. A theater that used to be a church. The light coming trough the window was fabulous and the whole atmosphere was great.

Texas,Tassels and Cowboy Boots

This three little things listed above on the title are definitely my favorite fashion pieces. I couldn’t describe my style in a word but it is certainly something really similar to a female version of a punk cowboy living in a cold land.

Not forgetting that I love mixing prints and layering so sometimes I could look like a punk pimp cowboy living in a cold land.

Well, what I really want to say in this post is how fascinated I am by Vogue’s latest Editorial called  ”Don’t Mess with Texas” with the beautiful Karen Elson (I know it isn’t the latest new ever but I only got the time to talk about it now!).

Going trough the pages I don’t see a thing that I don’t like, I would love to own every single garment of this shoot. Leather skirts, acid washed denim, cowboy boots, tassels and brown belts.

It really transported me to the whole Texas atmosphere and made me hope for my Texas days and a amazing wardrobe.

Ebay Online Fashion Week – Day 2

Second day of Ebay Online Fashion Week was hosted by Darren Kennedy and the guests for the chat were Natalie B. Coleman (Irish Fashion Designer) and Andrea Byrne (Irish Fashion Journalist).

The first topic of the talk was “Selling on Ebay” and Andrea, a avid seller (with her mum’s help), gave some tips on how to sell and what sells better. I wasn’t impressed when she said the designer collaborations and higher level brands actually sell better but she didn’t put me off from selling my  ”crappy” pieces cause she sold some Penneys stuff herself!

Natalie B. Coleman resumed her carreer in few words (being really modest about her achievements all the time) but the most interesting talking was about her collections and the story she tells trough her garments, for example her top in wich we can read ” All the jewelry I’ve never got” that actually comes from the one moment when she was looking trough her mum’s jewelry that she got from her boyfriend and Natalie that never got any.

After the introductions the talk got a bit more serious  (but not less enjoyable and entertaining) with topics like ” how to set up your own online brand” “networking” and “being in the Fashion Industry in Ireland”.

Lots of questions came trough twitter from the hashtag “eBayOFW” but on the room we also could make questions and mine came on the very end of the program to Darren and Andrea that are bloggers ” how do you get people to follow you?”. The answer wasn’t different from others I’ve heard before, is all about getting out there, having a facebook page and being a self publicist, getting your name out there!

It was a great talk, but Am I famous now that I was featured on live stream online TV?

Last thursday I went to the press launch of NCAD Fashion Show sponsored by Diet Coke. The event was basically a sneak-peak of the collections and the launch of two videos.

First of all, it was an honor to be among many irish  fashion talents, I was impressed with most of the designs I’ve seen.

The place was massive (the architecture reminded me of Turkey) and the two videos ‘Stitched Together’ and ‘What Is Fashion?’, were amazing. So many important figures of Irish Fashion were featured in there (such as Natalie B. Coleman, Brendan Courtney…) and everything they said was really honest.

One thing has to be said about Think House: This guys know how to organize amazing events. I’ve never been disappointed once with them!

The Fashion show will be on the 26 of May so if you are interested on the raising talents of Irish Fashion Industry this is definitely the place for you!

As most of you probably know Better Fashion Week is happening this week in Dublin and this is an amazing opportunity to get together and have lots of fashion fun!

On Better Fashion Week Website  you can check the events you want to attend (and how to buy your tickets to it), there are so many nice things to see during this week that I can’t mention all of them, but I will be attending as press to register the best moments and eat all the fashion knowledge that will be offered during the events.

Starting today with the “Re-dress Saloon” with the theme Be Fashion Fearless. I didn’t even need to mention that I am already loving this event just because of the title! It seems to be a great opportunity to see what the leading irish sartorialists have to share about their views and fashion inspiration!

Themost important thing about the whole event is the idea of promoting and developing sustainable fashion on the Irish Fashion Industry.

I think we all have lots to learn this week! Grab you notebook and come meet me for a chat on Better Fashion Week!

Let’s talk about Fake Pieces

March 1st, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

chanel-paper-bag-fake-bags-designer-fake-garments-blog-lilac-daphne-lopes

Today I allowed myself to be a bit more political and talk about a fashion-related subject that I love to talk about because I hate so much too see : Fake Designer Pieces.

Well.. not everyone has the money to buy a zillion euros bag during the recession! But if you can’t buy the work of a recognized designer why would you buy a fake one? Just to have the label on it so you can cause a hint of envy on the other girls? Seriously?

When I say fake, I am not saying inspired. I love inspired garments cause the brands pick a great idea from a famous designer catwalk and translate to the high-street concept.

Some people might think “doesn’t it make it fake cause the idea wasn’t theirs?”. But the answer is NO, because no high-street brand get the recognition of “great designers”. They actually don’t want it because the whole idea is to recreate desired pieces and make them affordable.

When you buy designer garments  besides buying the actual garment with (almost) always amazing quality and comfort, but you are also buying  yourself a bit status – Who wouldn’t love to walk down the street head-to-toe in designer garments and be the rich-bitch we envy so much?.

Not to mention that most of the time besides buying  the garment+ the brand package, we also pay for the admiration and respect that we have for the artists that make our heart beat faster!

So I really can’t understand a person who loves so much brand (but can’t afford it) and buys FAKE design pieces, cause it is disrespectful with the passion you have and it is even more disgusting if it is only to show off and lie to people around you.

I want to hear opinions!

P.s.: Do not forget that we have a giveaway to celebrate our first birthday going on at the moment. The prize includes Bene-Tint from Benefit, a book called “The Personal Shopper” and much more!

Digital Prints by Mary Katrantzou

February 17th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

The fashion world should be really thankful for the day that Mary Katrantzou decided to swap Interior prints for Fashion prints in Central Saint Martins.

Digital Prints and structural shapes are the trademarks of the emerging talent winner of British Fashion Awards. The good news is that this amazing garments will be now available for mortals thanks to her collaboration with the high-street brand Topshop!

A capsule wardrobe composed by 10 to-die pieces that can make any outfit a fashion statement. The prices aren’t the best news, starting for 40 for leggings going up to 350 to a breath-taking prom dress.

I feel like this floral dresses taste like a small bite of the chinese dynasty.

The entire collection is amazing but the prom dress definitely got my love. The best piece I’ve ever seen on high-street market. It talks for itself and doesn’t even need to be accessorized to look amazing.

I wonder if any high-street collaboration will ever get my heart like this one.

Diet Coke & Benefit: Get Glam!

February 15th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

I know that everybody already talked about it but I just had the chance today, so you might read about the Get Glam Event here too!

Well starting the whole talking about the event, it was the press launch of the partnership of Diet Coke and Benefit. My first impression was: Amazing!

The Dylan hotel was perfect inside (congratulations ThinkHouse), spotless decoration! p.s.: I still want the giant Diet Coke Bottle to myself! It was so nice to see all the familiar blogger faces and get to know this amazing collection that is Get Glam!

Margaret Urbanowicz, Daphne Lopes

I must say that everybody was stunning but I felt in love with James’ Outfit. The floral printed blazer just got my heart!

At the beginning I did not know what to wear but apparently my lime shorts were a completely success!

Daphne Lopes Get Glam Press Launch

The 3 looks that Benefit created for Get Glam are  Bernadette “the romantic”, Irene ” The rock chick” and Eleanor ” The fashionista” were recreated by Benefit’s Head Make-up Artist Lisa Potter (that was wearing a amazing neon top) and I have to say they are gorgeous.

Not to mention that the special cans of Diet Coke for Get Glam are amazing and each one of them has a code under the lead that gives every 30 minutes a make-up gift box with the fashionista look! (register the code at cokezone.ie).

On Get Glam is all about the lips and this is what I love most about the collection!

So you can imagine how happy I was when I put my hands on the goodie boxes!

Fairplay to Benefit and Diet Coke!

Fashion is not about Money

February 6th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

money does not buy style

Just like many -and many and more many- girls, I am fascinated about the fashion world. This glamourous and stylish world where you can actually express yourself by the way you dress have been enchanting many on its way up.

Following the Fashion Blogs “Boom”, nice people got the chance to share personal style, tips and opinions about fashion. That’s why as a fashion blogger and reader is really upsetting to see girls that are only famous on the fashion industry because their parents are rich enough to buy them a whole designer wardrobe from the latest season.

It took me a while to realize that not everything that is branded and expensive is cool. With the time I learned that is not right at all to work in a full-time job for a month to get the chance to buy some branded stuff and be bankrupted by xmas.

Think about Style in this way: It is so easy to be impeccable when you go to B.T and buy a Chanel Black dress and Louboutin shoes and Louis Vuitton bag, but can we actually call it stylish?

I am not saying that having designer clothes is wrong or not stylish, I am far from saying it! I love designer clothes. I just think it is much nicer when people actually know about mixing and matching. (I am also not saying that rich girls are not stylish).

Fashion was always about being creative and being yourself. Some people can think that fashion is all about the money but I appreciate much more the style of someone that doesn’t think that brands are everything, who buys statement pieces and knows what to do with them!

If you only feel bad every time you see that perfect blond, blue-eyed, skinny, tall and rich girl, stop being a fool, you are the one who gives her audience. Stop looking to the wrong side of things and start searching for people that have something to say about fashion that does not involves more than 3 zeros and a $ in front of it.

Top 10 Trends 2011

December 20th, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

TOP10 2011 fashion trends

We can absolutely say that 2011 wasn’t a boring year for fashion at all. We had scandals (ex: Galliano), successful collaborations (H&M and Versace) and  fabulous weddings (Royal Wedding, Kate Moss etc).

Crossing the catwalk  S/S 11 and F/W 11 we have seen many trends, and of course , we all have our favorite ones . So, as I’m a ” list-maniac”, I compiled a  list of my  Top 10 2011 Trends

1-  Boutique-Punk: Some people might not realize but they are all using this trend with their studded leather jackets, buskins and leather pants. I am a huge fan of this trend mixed with some romantic pieces or leopard printed garments!

2- Lady Like: Bought from 60′s the full circle skirts and the midi dresses. It is all about the femininity and hour-glass body shape

3- Sheer Clothing: It was the rule number 1 on the red carpet this year, but it is also a fashion statement for the high-street!

4- Color Blocking:  We have seen this one a lot on the catwalk, but Gucci gave us a master class on how to use color blocking! After Kim kardashian, Rihanna, Nicole Scherzinger and Cheryl Cole this trend exploded and every single shop in Dublin was all about color blocking! Absolutely success on S/S 11!

5- Pleats: Who haven’t seen pleats in 2011? It is impossible to ignore that the high-street mixed the ” Lady Like” with Pleats and gave us good few pairs of midi-pleated-skirts on S/S. Not forgetting about my beloved leather pleated skirt on F/W 11!

6- Pijama-Outerwear: Loungewear as the inspiration of loose, soft and printed garments! Comfy and Stylish!

7- 70′s: The sophisticated glamour and bohemian vibe from the 70′s came straight down to the high-street. From the S/S 11 to F/w 11 all I see is a bit of this decade!

8- Women’s Tuxedo: It was a trend worn just by the most audacious women! It is edgy and trendy but if your focus is show off your body, this trend is definitely not for you!

9- Fetish: Louis Vuitton brought the fetish back this year with lots of hotpants, boots and jackets. Success enough to bring back Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell to the fashion-shows!

10- Polka Dots: Every size, everywhere, in more than one garment per time. Polka dots was the highest trend of the year brought by Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney .
