The Jumper

October 18th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

jumper fashion trend winter autumn 2012 aw12 fall trend irish fashion

The Jumper is a old winter friend, cosy and warm, but always considered a topping for your pijama bottoms, or a ‘supermaket-outfit’.

Things changed completely when Rihanna stepped out on her Kenzo’s jumper, this piece made the top 10 on most fashionista’s winter wish-list. Nowadays, a good grey over sized jumper is what the coolest kids wear.

Studs, diamonds, crazy prints and logos are welcome. Topshop and Urban Outfitters have a great selection, but let’s face it, men’s jumpers are always better – and warmer. Hit the menswear section of the high-street shops, they always have, logo and printed jumpers.

Using simple DIY tricks, you can customize a unique jumper. A good idea is to get yourself some studs and apply to the shoulders, cuffs or collar. But if you want to go pro, you can cut your logo in a paper and use it as a stencil to apply the fabric dye on it!

Mach your new garment with boyfriend jeans, leather skinny trousers or skirts and create a different look every time you wear the same jumper.

Empty Spaces

September 7th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Last night I got really moved watching TED videos, they are really inspirational.

This one really caught my attention because Dublin is currently in a ‘zombieland’ state where most of new constructions are empty and I believe this space should be used for good of the community and to promote culture.

They did something similar in Smithfield some months ago called Art Tunnel, using a empty help of sponsors on Fundt.ie a cultural + natural space was created to substitute the old empty/dirty space.

You can sponsor Smithfield Art Tunnel here

Check this video and you might come up with some ideas for changing the landscape of your neighborhood!

Drawing can be considered a gift and not everyone owns it. Fashion illustration was never so hype as it is right now and the number of admires and triers are rising daily.

I was always good on arts and general creative subjects such as design but I never wanted to follow this path, I think is way too few opportunities on this field.

Lately I’ve been having a lack of interest on most of the stuff that I used to love, such as reading magazines and blogs.  One day I just woke up got my old drawing papers and a few pencils and started sketching some things.

Hopefully not a shame to be posting them.

DIY Studded Cross Clutch

July 25th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Today’s DIY is the easiest thing you could ever make in your entire life. A clutch with a studded cross.

Well… you won’t really make the clutch, just buy a cheap and plain Clutch. You will also need the studs (if yours, like mine, need glue, make sure you buy it!) a pen and a rule.

This DIY only have two steps:

1- Draw the cross on the clutch

2- Stuck your studs at it

I also wrote my initials on mine, I used one of that rules that have letters and numbers on it!

That’s it, done guys. Simple, cheap and effortless.

Skull Necklace

Nothing accessorize easier than a long necklace, it goes over basically anything in earth.

This Skull necklace is from New Look and originally had feathers and  other “pretty-pretty” incorporated to it but I bought it anyway because I really like this “old-golden” mexican skull.

Sometimes we have to read between the lines to find what we want on the high-street.

And always remember this golden rule you can always take the bad embellishment away.

Has been such a long time since I did my last DIY post, that’s because I’ve been working so much and bla blabla but I simply had to share this DIY with you.

I am a big galaxy fan, from clothes to everything-galaxy so I could not resist this DIY!

It is a great DIY for people recycling their wardrobes cause it gives a completely different look to you old pal!

What you need:

- White, pink and blue Sparkly Fabric Dye (the brand on mine is DECO and I bought it on the craft shop inside Jervis Centre – Dublin)

- White or black pair of simple shoes

- Paint Brush

- Newspapers (to cover the floor)

The receipe:

1 – Take off the laces of your shoesyou don’t want them to get all dirty!

2 - Cover the area you are going to use for the DIY with newspaper

3 – Poor a smal bit of each dye on the newspaper

4 – Using the brush start painting the galaxytap the brush for a better effect

5- To get different colors mix the blue and pink (purple) and to get lighter tones mix the white with any color.

The start will probably look ridiculous but don’t give up until the end of the process, it only started looking good for me when it was almost done!

Let me know what you think about my galaxy shoes and fill me with photos of your tries!

Floral Head Band

May 2nd, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Silver Factory Floral Head Band S:S12 Lilac Flowers

I’ve been a bit absent this week because I was working overnights in New Look, and I must say, the shop look amazing after the whole re-merchandising thing, you must check it out… whatever…

This week the only thing on my mind was “floral headband”. I’ve seen them on the coolest blogs and editorials, and I couldn’t get over it!

They bring that bite of boho-summer look that I love. I bet you could easily DIY one with a ribbon, plastic flowers and fabric glue but I have no time at all to be buying stuff and DIY-ing right now. So my best bet is to try hard and find one on the high-street! (probably I will have to buy kind of 3 of them and put them together myself to make them chunky).

I want a really chunky, funky, corky one, but I couldn’t find it until I checked Silver Factory Editorial on instagram. They have this amaaaazing ones!

A must-have on my wardrobe this summer (that seems to never come in Ireland). I was talking to one of the models of the new editorial and she said the owner of Silver Factory did the headbands himself so hopefully I will get my hands on this lilac-beauty.

DIY Simple Bow

It has been ages since I had the time to DIY something, but I finally got it!

It felt like any of my crafts were good enough but it must be because today is friday 13th (uuUuuUUUUUuuu) and anything is meant to work out properly for me!

After trying out a bracelet (that ended up like a huge fail) I decided to keep it simple and make some bows that I could use on my shirts, bags and hair.

I used the easiest formula ever. No sewing or anything difficilt, only fabric and fabric glue and pins.

Using the previous materials what you have to do is:

Has been a long time since I DIY-ed something, my work has been consuming my whole life!

Today I had a lovely ” day off” (cause I will be working over-night) so I decided to DIY a denim hotpant!

I bought this hotpant in New Look some weeks ago, I love the cross on the back but I felt like it could be cooler!

I have this square studs for a while now and I was wondering where to apply them! So I united both desires and I decided to cover the cross on the back of my denim hotpants with square studs!

The process is pretty simple you only need super glue, studs (mine are the ones without the spikes on the back, that’s why I need glue!) and a pair of denim shorts.

Mine had the draw already done, but if your hotpants don’t have just pick a pencil and draw yourself a cross (easy enough).

After having the draw, you only need to glue the studs on!

During the process I decided to put some studs on the front pocket as well!

First of all I must say Happy Pancake Tuesday everyone, hope you are all eating delish pancakes!

Well but not just of pancakes a tuesday is made, so here I am with another DIY for you!!

Do you remember my outfit from yesterday?? I said that I would love to DIY the collar of my pastel shirt and here I am!

This DIY Collar is one of the most simple one I’ve ever done! And I am so proud because before doing this collar I wasn’t too sure about this shirt and now I just love it!

I like to call this collar Bowld!

What you need:

- A shirt

- Ribbons

- Needle & Thread

- Scissor

How to do it?

Using the ribbons and the scissor make enough bows to cover the collar, don’t worry too much about sizes. Sew the bows to the collar and that’s it!

Incredibly easy!

Oh! Let’s not forget about my make-up… I just decided to go bolder cause the name of my newest craft inspired me! Simple smokey eyes but with 2 totally opposite colours!

Let me know what you think about the whole look!
