Anna Dello Russo Fashion Shower

September 11th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

Italian-born, Anna Dello Russo, dismiss my presentations, and not only because she runs one of the biggest publications in the world, Vogue Japan, but because her fashion style is unique, unexpected and impossible to ignore.

ADR paired up with H&M to create a edgy accessories collection for women that are not afraid of experimenting and having fun with fashion. In a conversation about her collection she stated  “Accessories personalize your style and it is really easy if you don’t want to reinvent your whole world you can just put on an accessory to change it up.”

Wearing a latex dress and many items of her H&M collaboration, the ‘Fashion-Gaga’ teaches us the key lessons to master our fashion styles. If you are not repeating the Anna Dello Russo’s mantra ‘Fashion Shower’, having a real shower, you obviously didn’t watch the video enough times.

Now if you excuse me, I am going to start the queue for the baroque sunglasses and the vintage shell-luggage.

Ebay Online Fashion Week – Day 2

June 19th, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

ebay online fashion week ireland dublin irish fashion natalie b coleman andrea byrne daren kennedy Daphne Lopes

Second day of Ebay Online Fashion Week was hosted by Darren Kennedy and the guests for the chat were Natalie B. Coleman (Irish Fashion Designer) and Andrea Byrne (Irish Fashion Journalist).

The first topic of the talk was “Selling on Ebay” and Andrea, a avid seller (with her mum’s help), gave some tips on how to sell and what sells better. I wasn’t impressed when she said the designer collaborations and higher level brands actually sell better but she didn’t put me off from selling my  ”crappy” pieces cause she sold some Penneys stuff herself!

Natalie B. Coleman resumed her carreer in few words (being really modest about her achievements all the time) but the most interesting talking was about her collections and the story she tells trough her garments, for example her top in wich we can read ” All the jewelry I’ve never got” that actually comes from the one moment when she was looking trough her mum’s jewelry that she got from her boyfriend and Natalie that never got any.

After the introductions the talk got a bit more serious  (but not less enjoyable and entertaining) with topics like ” how to set up your own online brand” “networking” and “being in the Fashion Industry in Ireland”.

Lots of questions came trough twitter from the hashtag “eBayOFW” but on the room we also could make questions and mine came on the very end of the program to Darren and Andrea that are bloggers ” how do you get people to follow you?”. The answer wasn’t different from others I’ve heard before, is all about getting out there, having a facebook page and being a self publicist, getting your name out there!

It was a great talk, but Am I famous now that I was featured on live stream online TV?

Style Icon

May 31st, 2012 by Daphne Lopes

daisy lowe girls crush style icon inspiration collage

One of the most common questions between fashion friends is: Who is your style icon?

It’s funny because I was always the girl that struggled to answer this, maybe because I didn’t have a clear concept of my own personal style yet (not that it is a problem cause personal style is something that changes a lot and take time until you actually understand what is more ” you” and less ” you now”).

But somehow nowadays I see myself looking a lot trough Daisy Lowe outfits and I realized how similar are our styles.

I love everything about her, from the look to the personality, I think I just love a timelessrock chick (and I’ve always been one myself)!

Now, honestly, who is your style icon?!

The Nation’s Ultimate Style Icon

December 1st, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

Alexa chung british fashion awards style new hair look 60s inspired

The British Fashion Awards is one of the most important prizes on the Fashion World. This year TV Presenter turned designer had a battle with the the Duchess of Cambridge – that did really well during the year with her versitile wardrobe.

But the It-Girl got it easy for the second time as the Nation’s Ultimate Style Icon. To be honest it wasn’t a surprise. This was Alexa’s year! The 60′s vibe on the catwalks just made her personal style be an example among all the other mortal girls.

To the ones that did not recognize her at the picture, she just cut her signature long bob into a girly fringe and volumous bushier crown.

But Future-Princess, don’t be sad, it is actually really difficult to win against a woman that wears Carven, YSL, Louis Vuitton, Christopher Kane, Stella McCartney, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, Mary Katrantzou and Chanel daily.

Kate Middleton you’ve got the prince but Alexa got the crown ;)

Dita Von Teese Airport Style

As I’m planning my trip to Brazil in January, the subject that really make my heart pop nowadays is “airport style”.

That’s why when I woke-up today and opened the Fashion Telegraph with Dita Von Teese’s Airport style I couldn’t keep my mouth shut, I had to spread the word!

The most perfect Old-Hollywood Style composed by a ubber chic long coat, vintage sunglasses and 9 pieces of vintage luggage from the likes of Goyard, Glovetrotter and MCM.

She is certainly one of my biggest inspirations not just regarding style but also because she is self-suficient women, that dyes her own hair, does her own make-up, never used a service of a stylist and does it all REALLY well.

Dita, a daily motivation dose for women.

GQ Men Of The Year

December 1st, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

In the 16th edition of GQ Man of the Year the boys stole the spotlight at the red carpet.

It seems like the girls were in the boring zone, anything surprised me at all!

In the men’s team, starting by Justin Timberlake who played with the serious combination “black suit + white shirt” with the burgandy bow-tie.

Chris Pine, 3-piece suit and tie, and Russell Westbrook posed with monochromatic looks in brown. Both broke the ice with a blue shirt. The really tidy hair brought to Chris a vintage look.

Evan McGregor made one of my favorite combinations using the navy+white striped suit on top of a all black look. To break up the seriousness, the scarf and the t-shirt.

Jay-Z, dressed up as a waiter, was definitely not the best dressed, but he was the one to bring the “Men-of-the-Year” trophy back home!

Score one for the boys!

Victoria Beckham Empire

December 1st, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

“As long as the quality is great, then people can say it’s not their personal taste, but they can’t say that it’s rubbish”

It seems like the former Spice Girl followed perfectly Marc Jacobs’s tip when she first started off on the Fashion World, with no designer graduation on her CV.

Victoria Beckham achieved a mark any other celebrity-designer have ever got: A Fashion-House that grows 120% every year and both public and media loves.

“I want to build a business that is going to be here a long time. This isn’t […] about a celebrity line that will come one minute and go the next. I’m really trying to build something that will stand the test of time.”

Victoria Beckham

Chanel should start worrying, V.B have just one thing on her mind: VENI VIDI VICI.

M.C.A Gala Event

December 1st, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

The Vintage Muse, Dita Von Teese, made my heart beating acelerate with the “Asymmetric Velvet” dress. Matching perfectly Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture with the 50′s hair and makeup, Dita has created what may be classified as the perfect “Old-Hollywood” look.

Who also succumbed to the winter’s favorite fabric is Jaime King, wearing an Oscar de la Renta‘s creation.

Dakota Johnson, actress of “The Social Network“, used the androgen trend in a Bohemian way, and gained some points with me.

But the red carpet not only lives from hits … So the Pulp Fiction star, Rosanna Arquette, who threw herself headlong into the polka trend, achieved a result that said by itself: I’m an Avatar extra.

Between velvet dresses with vintage flair and androgyny, my choice is always Dita Von Teese.

EMA’s Pink Carpet

December 1st, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

Last night happened the MTV’s EMA and now is the time to do what we do best: Talk about the looks!

The current POP princesses Katy Perry and Jessie J showed up with completely different looks:

“Pink rockabilly” was Katy’s choice. Matching with her hair, all the pieces were made in some shade of pink, but my favorite is definitely the candy-floss leather jacket with diamonds. Speaking of make-up, I could not ignore the look of the mega-eyebrows + Tweegy lashes.

To complete the 50′s look, kate put her pink hair into a quiff, matching, unintentionally, with the designer Jeremy Scott.

I was surprised to see Jessie J into a vintage-style, wearing a strapless leopard printed Dolce & Gabbana dress, curled bob with no fringe with her usual smokey eyes and red lipstick!

Lady Gaga, extravagant as always, appears in a metallic dress and hair pulled to the side with three really well defined layers. But the best part of this look to me was the make-up! Following three make-up trends for this season: coloredeyebrows + metallic shades + kitty eyes!

Both Models, Bar Rafaeli and Irina Shayk, choose to point even more their curves with tiny dresses.

The most famous Disco Pants by American Apparel appeared at Jenniffer Metcalfe post-lipo body.

It seems like Bruno Mars and his stage-fellows were inspired by EMA’s carpet colour and were all in pink suits and Wayfarer sunglasses.

To complete the “Male Team”: David Hasselhoff, David Getta, Jason Derulo, LMFAO and 30 Seconds to Mars, also walked by EMA’s Pink Carpet!

But of all the famous that passed through EMA last night, who got my eyes was Selena Gomez. The “teen-queen” wore a lace Marchesa dress matching with her nude shoes with crystals. The wavy hair put on the side matched perfectly with the natural look chosen for the make-up.

It looks like Selena learned the lesson “Less is More”.

Which look is your favorite?

The Kooples

December 1st, 2011 by Daphne Lopes

Here on the blog almost every day we talk about a brand and everyone has a list of favorites!

From time to time mine shift, but one that is occupying the first places in the ranking on my list is The Kooples.

A Franco-British brand, full of personality that makes complementary clothing for couples. I’ve always been obsessed with clothes with a taste of my boyfriend’s wardrobe and lately androgyny and The kooples has made my dreams come true.

Besides the amazing garments, the promotional videos they make are just charming.

And for it all is that with my boyfriend I entered the competition that The Kooples are doing! It would be a kindness if you could vote for us https://apps.facebook.com/kooples-photo-call/jeu/couple/id/1411/
